Münster

Münster is the academic and cultural upper centre of the region and a fast-developing technology location all-in-one. The city has 280.000 citizens and near 60.000 students. It accommodates one of Germany's largest universities, and one of the best-funded technical universities financed from third-party resources.

Münster is a Hanseatic Town and a member of the "Historic Highlights of Germany". Its historic city image, its promenade and high streets, its restaurants and pubs, museums and theatres make the city not only interesting for its citizens. The city cares about its traditions and it is the declared aim of all protagonists involved to draw on the academic potential of the universities and utilise the economic viability of the research facilities.

LivCom-Award

In October 2004 Münster has been awarded as the world's most liveable community in the category Cities with 200.000 to 750.000 inhabitants. Münster topped all international competitors like Seattle/USA, Okoyama/Japan or Coventry/UK. Five categories have been analyzed by the jury:

  1. Enhancement of the landscape
  2. Heritage Management
  3. Environmentally sensitive practices
  4. Community involvement
  5. Planning for the future

In all five categories, Münster gained the highest possible rating.
